This is a remade custom from a old version of Yuna I made in 2005.....I look at my old one, and found myself looking at it very sickly. XD So for the sake of completeness for my current Final Fantasy custom collection, I felt it was necessary to remake a Summoner Yuna. How she was made: -Espresso pony hair styled with a curling iron -High-quality material for her skirt, detail is acrylics, painted on with a toothpick, and pleated at the top. (I embellished the pattern by adding dots, lol) -Beads are painted, sealed with gloss, and attached to her with wire. Her blue tassels are water nixie pony hair. -Her orange flower is cut from ribbon, and the light cream orange details are cut from a separate piece of ribbon, and it's all out-lined in charcoal acrylics. -The rest of her outfit is hand-sewn. Now, I don't want anyone to misunderstand this....but this paraphrase of quotes drives me to improve every time I make a custom (I'll keep the source anonymous) : "Mana, I stopped looking at your customs because they never improve. You just sit in your little chair, making the same lame over-cluttered customs over and over....and will most likely be making the very same customs well-past the age of 40. If you don't plan on ever improving, you might as well stop customizing." However, if I was actually born yesterday, this probably would have actually driven me to stop customizing....however, my common sense tells me that improvement happens over-time, and no one should be expected to immediately improve over-night. :~/ With that food for thought, here's my old version from 2005: [link] [link] The old one was made from recycled hair from a very old ugly doll. XD Her orange flower is made from a ribbon, in which I made fail attempts to draw the detailing on with pen, and acrylics....and her beads are poorly-painted, over-sized and not sealed. XD The materials for her fabric is in poor-quality...and I pretty much just scrounged up any white/navy blue material I could find around the house. The blue material is SO crappy in fact, the acrylics wouldn't take to the fabric no matter how many layers I tried putting on it LOL And her body paint is very thick, the paint strokes are visible, and just over-all lumpy and not pleasant to touch. XD (and un-sealed.) Comments
I really like the remake Mana. The eyes are sensational as always and I really like the blending of colours in them - its subtle but still quite obvious. I also love the painting on the fabric - that looks very clean, and the waistband/belt detail is also awesome. Definitely improved ^.^
-- ~Princess Of Darkness~ Note me if you're interested in a commission!! Oh hi, haven't heard from you in a while!
Thanks for the input; through this collection I've experimented with various ways of blending the eye colors....I usually start with a medium hue for the base, then go to the top of the eye with a deep dark color, and blend it to light at the bottom. To make them pop more, it also helps to work in neon colors for the mediums...and high-light/outline with metallic paints. Of course, you may already know some of these things...since you do some amazing paint work as well. In a lot of my older customs I didn't bother messing with neons and metallics...I just stuck with basic hues. :~/ -- I have commissions available for custom ponies, and traditional drawings. If interested, click here [link] I don't understand why anybody would want to say these things to you, but ... some people are just assholes, if you'll excuse my language. You're quite right, improvement doesn't exactly happen overnight, and whoever said that must be kicking themselves now, because you've improved a ton. As much as I like the 2005 version, this one ... wow.
That skirt is to die for. All the tiny details make it so eye-catching; and that pattern is so cute. I love how you styled the hair - the beads and tassles really bring it out more. Her eyes ... oh, dude. They're epic. -- "Look at the size of that fucking duck!" ~ The Rev. Beautiful icon by *Ginnunga. They said it because I went onto their forum because someone mentioned me. ~the-Dragonstar said "What's even funnier is MD commissioned Mana. LOL" as though it was suppose to drag MD's name in the mud even further....then I jumped in and corrected her by saying it was a trade, not a commission, then they all started bashing me telling me how much my customs suck.
I'm not sure about "kicking" themselves...MD went to this custom on a different website, and told me how much she dislikes the hair. :~/ -- I have commissions available for custom ponies, and traditional drawings. Fff, I don't see what's not to like about her hair, to be honest. It's awesome. -- "Look at the size of that fucking duck!" ~ The Rev. Beautiful icon by *Ginnunga. It's hit or miss, really. With every Yuna custom I make, her hair turns out WAY different each time....but I think it has to do with the shape of the pony's head. :~/
